CanSkate Starts Sept 20th, 2010

Skate Canada’s CanSkate program incorporates progressive learning and daily assessment of skills. We focus on fun, fitness and participation, helping skaters develop a sense of accomplishment as they work hard and improve. The CanSkate Program is instructed exclusively by our team of highly qualified (National Coaching Certification Program) professional coaches.
They are assisted by qualified volunteer Program Assistants. These are our senior skaters who are trained each year.

Please note: For school-age and pre-school registrants, a responsible adult must remain in the arena lobby during CanSkate and Pre-Junior sessions.

Beginner skaters must wear a C.S.A. approved helmet.
Bulky clothing interferes with movement; snowpants not recommended. Light jacket and mitts are appropriate.

Parents are needed to assist the co-ordinator as Session Parents, to give out badges, smiles and congratulations on each session.

It is recommended that skaters skate twice weekly for maximum results.

Jr. StarSkate

The Newton Figure Skating Club offers group instruction in figure skating. It encompasses stroking, turns and edge development, freeskating and ice dancing in small group lessons with a coach. Skaters may enter Jr. starskate at the stage 5 level of Canskate. Skaters will continue working on the remaining two Canskate Badges but focus on the STARSkate Program and will work on the badges, Freestyle, Dance and Skills.

Sessions are 45 minutes long with a Group lesson. Skaters at this level should skate more than one 45 minute session per week.
